POSITION OVERVIEW

 

Reporting to the President of the AWN Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for achieving the goals of the organization as set out by the Board of Directors. The incumbent oversees AWN’s day-to-day operations, program planning and delivery, as well as the supervision and coaching of the leadership team. The Executive Director is also responsible for building and maintaining good relationships with AWN’s stakeholders including members of the Aseniwuche Winewak Nation, government representatives, and other stakeholder groups.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

 

  • Develop and execute an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that align with the strategic direction of the organization.

 

  • Provide administrative support to the Board of Directors, including the preparation and follow up of monthly reports and meeting minutes.   

 

  • Oversee the planning, funding, implementation and evaluation of the organization's programs, services and special projects in line with AWN’s mission and organizational goals.

 

  • Oversee AWN’s leadership team by maintaining a positive, safe and ethical work environment that is conducive to hiring and retaining an engaged workforce.

 

  • Provide personal coaching and professional support to the leadership team; support initiatives to develop employees’ professional skills and overall business acumen.   

 

  • Ensure that AWN Policies and Procedures are communicated and implemented in a fair and consistent manner.  Recommend any required policy and/or procedure changes to the Board of Directors as needed in line with new legislation, good governance and/or management practices.  

 

  • Maintain excellent community and government relations through regular communication with stakeholders on the organization’s activities, as well as to establish collaborative arrangements in pursuit of AWN’s mission and goals.

 

  • In collaboration with the Finance leadership team, prepare a comprehensive annual budget and manage the organization’s funds according to the approved budget.

 

  • Under the direction of the President and the Board, prepare complex correspondence, reports, submissions, and significant presentations, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Post-secondary business or public administration degree/diploma or equivalent

  • 10+ years of progressive experience at a management level

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written

  • Excellent budget and report-writing skills

  • Excellent computer skills, including a solid working knowledge of Word and Excel

  • Knowledge of Aseniwuche Winewak Nation culture and/or Cree language considered an asset

  • Must have a valid permit to work in Canada

  • Must be willing to relocate permanently to Grande Cache, Alberta
