The Aboriginal Youth Council (AYC) actively meets at least once a month to plan activities and events for the group. The group gathers for a monthly lunch/meeting to discuss fundraising opportunities and ways to get involved with the community. They are currently collecting and recycling bottles to raise funds for upcoming trips. The group also participates in an annual highway clean-up day. You will also see the AYC at community events, such as the Red Road Gala, helping out in some sort of capacity. They are a friendly and outgoing group of youth who strive to have fun while having a positive impact on the community.

Red Road Gala 2013

In recognition of National Addictions Awareness Week, AWN, Mountain Metis and the AYC hosted the Red Road Gala on November 22, 2013. It was a wonderful night with delicious food, prizes and an amazing fashion show put on by the youth in the community. The Gala was very successful and well attended by community members from Grande Cache. The youth were spectacular with sharing their beautiful clothing and culture. The silent auction proceeds were donated to the AYC and the Mountain Metis's Homework Connection Program. Thank you all for supporting this cause!

The Red Road Gala is a fundraising event that includes dinner and entertainment and it takes place during National Addictions Awareness Week in order to promote healthy living and youth drug prevention. The highlight of the evening is watching local youth model traditional clothing that has been made by community members. The traditional outfits worn by the youth are works of art. The Elders and community members work to preserve their culture by keeping alive the tradition of tanning hides, beading, drumming, dancing, and singing.

Other Activities

The AYC has also taken trips to Grande Prairie to enjoy some recreation fun at the Eastlink Centre swimming, playing floor hockey and more! The group is planning for some conferences and a horsepacking trip this summer! Keep up the great work AYC!
