RECEPTIONIST – AWN (TAWOW CENTER)

Position Overview:

Aseniwuche Winewak Nation of Canada, A Fellowship of Aboriginal People, or AWN, is a provincially incorporated not-for-profit society based in Grande Cache, Alberta. AWN members share a unique history and ancestry as descendants of a diversity of Indigenous groups of Canada including Cree, Iroquois, Sekani, Dene-saa, Ojibwe, Assiniboine, and Shuswap. The Aseniwuche Winewak Nation are a Cree speaking people whose ancestors thrived in the Rocky Mountains and members continue to live a distinctive cultural way of life.

Duties:

  • Greet all visitors and direct them to the appropriate person or service.
  • Assess safety risks of incoming clients and de-escalate or otherwise manage challenging behavior using safe work practices.
  • Maintain general tidiness of the reception area, photocopy room, conference, and Lobby.
  • Provide general information in person and by phone, re-direct calls and/or take and deliver messages.
  • Provide office support services such as picking up and dropping of mail, maintain files, assist in the planning and preparation for meetings as required.
  • Manage inventory and office supplies as directed.
  • Assist with programming and events as directed.
  • Prepare and maintain word documents, spreadsheets, and reports as directed.
  • Perform general accounting tasks and data entry as directed.
  • Provide direct administrative support to the Mental Health Coordinators and colleagues as required.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of secondary school is preferred; post-secondary education or certification in business administration or a related field is an asset.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced office environment is desirable.
  • Proficiency in computer programs and record- keeping/accounting systems, such as Microsoft Office and Sage Accpac, (or similar).
  • Flexibility, independence, and strong time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Professional and respectful conduct when dealing with the public and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of local culture, including the ability to understand the Cree language is an asset.
  • Mandatory Drug and Alcohol testing.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving abstract.
  • RCMP clearance is required prior to commencing employment.

Work Demands:

  • This position is based in a typical office environment.
  • Primarily sedentary work, with occasional lifting of up to ten pounds.
