ASENIWUCHE RELATIONS MANAGER

Position Overview:

The Aseniwuche Relations Manager plays a strategic, integrative, and community-focused role within the Aseniwuche Winewak Nation (AWN) and its associated entities, including the Aseniwuche Development Corporation (ADC) and the Aseniwuche Environmental Corporation (AEC). This position is responsible for overseeing the pursuit, coordination, and management of all grants, funding opportunities, training, and employment contracts across AWN’s governance structure and its related organizations.

This role supports internal alignment, oversees project deliverables, and engages with industry partners, governments, and Indigenous investment bodies such as the Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC). The position also assists AWN’s cultural and economic development by supporting member-entrepreneurs and enhancing AWN’s cultural tourism initiatives.

Duties:

FUNDING AND GRANT MANAGEMENT:

  • Identify, pursue, and manage grant and funding opportunities for AWN, ADC, AEC, and related community initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain a centralized funding calendar and reporting system for all entities to reduce duplication and enhance efficiency.
  • Coordinate proposal writing, submissions, and reporting across entities, ensuring deadlines and compliance requirements are met.
  • Align funding opportunities with organizational and community goals.

PROJECT OVERSIGHT & DELIVERABLES:

  • Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of projects related to consultation, land, and resources.
  • Ensure that the projects participated in by the organization contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect the priorities of the Board.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of special projects as assigned by the Executive Director.

TRAINING & EMPLOYMENT INITIATIVES:

  • Secure training and employment-related funding and contracts in partnership with ADC, AEC, and other departments.
  • Collaborate with post-secondary institutions, training providers, and employers to expand employment opportunities for members.

STRATEGIC & INDUSTRY RELATIONS:

  • Represent AWN in engagements with industry, government, and investment partners.
  • Support negotiations and ongoing participation in Impact Benefit Agreements and projects involving the AIOC and other consortia.
  • Ensure consistent and coordinated communication across AWN and its partners.

SUPPORT FOR ENTREPRENEURS & CULTURAL TOURISM:

  • Lend support to member-entrepreneurs, especially where their activities align with AWN business and tourism priorities.
  • Assist with identifying funding, business planning, or partnership opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
  • Collaborate with departments involved in cultural tourism to pursue growth opportunities and funding for programs that highlight Aseniwuche heritage and culture.

INTERNAL COORDINATION & SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT:

  • Maintain internal systems for proposal tracking, reporting, and project coordination across all AWN entities.
  • Facilitate collaboration and information-sharing among departments and corporations.
  • Prevent duplication and encourage efficiency by identifying shared opportunities across entities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Governance, Public Administration, Business, Economic Development, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).
  • 3–5 years of experience in grant writing, Indigenous relations, or project management.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous governance and experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Familiarity with cultural tourism, entrepreneurship, or Indigenous business development is an asset.
