Position Overview:
The Tawow Community Centre is seeking a compassionate, organized, and culturally grounded Indigenous Patient Navigator (Indigenous Liaison) to support Indigenous individuals and families in accessing healthcare services throughout Grande Cache, the MD of Greenview, and the Aseniwuche Winewak Nation communities.
The Indigenous Liaison will provide healthcare navigation, advocacy, transportation coordination, health literacy support, and culturally safe guidance to community members accessing Alberta’s healthcare system.
Duties:
- Assisting clients with healthcare appointments, forms, referrals, and medical system navigation
- Supporting clients in understanding medical terminology and healthcare information
- Coordinating transportation assistance to healthcare appointments
- Advocating for culturally safe healthcare services
- Collaborating with interpreters, healthcare providers, Elders, and community agencies
- Participating in Tawow Community Centre events and wellness initiatives
- Maintaining confidential records and preparing reports.
Qualifications:
- Formal education in Human Services is preferred but not required; related training and practical experience may be considered equivalent
- Minimum one (1) year of experience collaborating with Indigenous communities in a community service role
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence with a clean driver’s abstract
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check and Intervention Services Information System (ISIS) check
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Effective conflict resolution and stress management skills
- High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity
- Mandatory Drug & Alcohol testing is required for this position
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Assets:
- Knowledge of Indigenous languages and cultures within the region
- Experience in healthcare or patient advocacy
- Ability to speak or understand Cree.
Work Demands:
- Primarily an office-based role with occasional travel
- Periods of sitting (e.g., while driving or at a desk) and standing or walking during community engagements and program delivery
- Occasional lifting of materials up to 30 lbs.
