David Thompson dispatched his employee, Jocko (Jaco) Finlay, into the Rocky Mountains to find the pass that the Peigan and Kootenay were using to cross the Continental Divide. Jocko found and blazed the Howse Pass trail along the path of the North Saskatchewan River.
