Ignace Giasson, an Iroquois man, constructed a large fur cache in the area of present-day Grande Cache to store an abundance of furs he could not travel with through the snow. He stored them for some time between 1818 and 1821.

A replica fur cache was built years later at the Grande Cache Tourism and Interpretive Centre and is visible entering the Hamlet of Grande Cache.
